Children living on the farm are aged between 4 and 21 years of age and at varying stages of education from Pre-School to University, some children have learning disabilities and one particular girl has a physical disability (a condition called Lupus) an extremely painful condition.
A child requires 2 sets of school uniform per year, varying costs for school fees depending on the level of education, books and pencils, lunch money and transportation. Also, private tutor fees for our physically disabled girl who is unable to attend school.
Although the Local Government run hospitals are highly subsidised, treatment and medicines are very cheap. These hospitals are great for day to day treatment like small cuts and bruises. But for more serious illnesses, large cuts, broken bones, bangs to the head, requiring more expensive equipment and highly trained doctors and surgeons we have to take our children to the private hospital in Nakhon Phanom 53km or Sakhon Nakhon 87km where costs are very expensive.
We provide a room to sleep (these are one roomed traditionally built Thai bamboo huts with grass roof), mattress, bedding, toiletries, clothes, shoes and most important of all is food and water. We have a common room 10mtr x 10mtr, Again, traditionally built Thai style made from wood with grass roof, this includes a kitchen, seating area for eating (although they like to eat on a mat on the floor Thai style) and preparing food, entertainment includes TV, DVD, Karaoke (only some nights, IF, they have been good), Board Games, reading books, drawing books, pens, pencils and crayons. We also teach English in the evenings. They also have some access to the internet as we only have one computer at the moment.
As we try to become more self sufficient, we encourage all the children to help in the farm every day by growing vegetables, fruits, making compost, planting bamboo and eucalyptus for future huts, repairs and replacing trees in our forest here to encourage the wild life.
But, you must come see us first and see what we are doing and then you can decide for yourself, everyone who visits us becomes part of our big family and is treated as such. Some have even decided to stay and build their own home here.
If you feel you want to support our aims then please feel free to contact us with the added knowledge you are welcome to visit and stay at our farm anytime.
